Nicolas Cage says he has no regrets and wants to work with Quentin Tarantino

'I don't really watch my own movies'

Nicolas Cage has done a lot of bad movies - really, really bad movies. We’re talking worse than Ghost Rider. Did you know last year he was in four films, the best of which - Rage - has a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 14%?

He has, of course, also done some great movies - Raising Arizona, Face/Off, Leaving Las Vega - as well as turning down some truly great roles - Lord of the Rings, Matrix.

Does he regret any of it? Absolutely not. He told Newsweek: “I don't really have any regrets. I think regret is a waste of time. I try to always move forward as opposed to dwelling on the past or the movies that might have happened.

“There certainly were movies that I probably would have benefited from if circumstances in my life allowed me to make them.

“Lord of the Rings. That trilogy. Aragorn. Or The Matrix. But the thing is about those movies, I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member. I don't really watch my own movies. And so I genuinely do have the joy of watching these—especially with Lord of the Rings.”

Luckily for everyone, Viggo Mortensen got the role of Strider in Lord of the Rings, and Cage was able to enjoy the trilogy as an audience member. He goes on to add reiterate: “I don't watch my own movies.”

But while the Cage may have no regrets, there are two directors he would love to work with in the future: “I would love to work with Paul Thomas Anderson. I think that he's one of the greats. And he's certainly a true artist. Quentin Tarantino and I, the two of us could really do something quite special. But I remain positive and hopeful that it will eventually happen.”

Funnily enough, Tarantino wanted cage to appear in Pulp Fiction in some capacity, being in with a strong possibility to play Lance, the gown wearing drug dealer.
