Bradley Walsh has revealed he has quit drinking alcohol after being told he was a “time bomb” by a concerned medic.

The TV personality, who stars in Doctor Who and hosts quiz show The Chase, was given the warning by his health expert, who told him: “You need to get fit.”

Walsh, who turned 60 last month, told The Sun on Sunday: “I was a time bomb. I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer.”

He says he had a “hang-up” about surpassing the age of his father, Daniel, who died as a result of heart disease when he was 59.

“I had it in the back of my mind that I just had to get past my dad’s age,” he said. “So turning 60 was a bit of milestone.”

Walsh had a cartoid artery test, as well as a calcium test for his heart, during a visit to Loughton Cardiac Clinic in Essex.

Following the check-up, which he has every two years, Walsh decided to change his diet completely. He says he has completely stopped eating cake, bread and pasta.

“I thought, ‘Oh crikey, I’m gonna be bang in trouble here if I don’t lose the weight and start dealing with this’”, he continued. ”I decided to get consciously stuck in. So, touch wood, I will be okay.”

Walsh, who was the “heaviest [he has] ever been” at the start of coronavirus lockdown, has since lost 10lbs.

He has presented The Chase since 2009.
