2025 Emmys live: Adolescence sweeps awards as Hannah Einbinder and John Oliver bleeped out

The 2025 Emmy Awards returned on Sunday to celebrate the year’s standout television shows and performances at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Leading the pack of nominees was Apple TV+’s office-set sci-fi, Severance, with 27 nods, but Netflix’s psychological drama Adolescence and Apple TV+’s new Hollywood satire, The Studio, ended up sweeping the night.
In the acting categories, Hacks stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, The Studio’s Seth Rogen, and Somebody Somewhere’s Jeff Hiller won in the comedy categories, while Adolescence co-stars Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty, Noah Wyle (The Pitt), Britt Lower (Severance), and Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) won in the drama categories.
The ceremony was hosted by stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze and saw the likes of Sydney Sweeney and Stephen Colbert among the list of presenters.
History was made by 15-year-old Cooper, who became the youngest-ever male actor to win an Emmy. At the other end of the spectrum, Kathy Bates, 77, became the oldest person ever nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama; however, Lower ended up taking the trophy for her performance in Severance.
The ceremony aired live on CBS and Paramount+.

Severance and The Penguin lead this year’s Emmys nominations, while the breakout drama Adolescence has also made an impressive showing.
Apple TV+’s beloved office-set sci-fi Severance boasts a total of 27 nominations, including lead acting nominations for stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower. It’s followed closely by HBO’s The Batman spin-off starring Colin Farrell as the eponymous Gotham City supervillain.
Another Apple TV+ show, Seth Rogen’s The Studio, picked up 23 nominations in the comedy categories, breaking a record previously held by Ted Lasso for the most comedy nominations for a show in its first season.

Ike Barinholtz, Jason Bateman, Sterling K. Brown, Alan Cumming, Walton Goggins, Tony Goldwyn, Mariska Hargitay, Justin Hartley, Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, James Marsden, Christopher Meloni, Leanne Morgan, Julianne Nicholson, Evan Peters, Parker Posey, Jeff Probst, Phylicia Rashad, Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Michael Schur, and Jesse Williams have also been announced as presenters.

Weeks before the Primetime Emmys are announced, the Creative Arts Emmys are awarded.
The latter celebrates the behind-the-scenes and technical achievements in television. “This is the Emmys for the people that the people who run the Emmys don’t think should be seen on network TV,” presenter Sarah Silverman said when she opened the show as a presenter.
Kendrick Lamar won his second career Emmy for the music direction of his Super Bowl halftime show, while Barack Obama won his third in this year’s documentary narrator category. Neither were in attendance.
