Game of Thrones season 6 episode 2 preview: Which character is going 'Home'?

Season six of Game of Thrones is well under way, with the premiere having been watched by millions around the world. Ever since, fans have been madly speculating about Melisandre's big reveal, wondering if she will (finally) revive Jon Snow.

While we don’t have the answers, we can speculate over what is going to happen in episode two. So, using the released stills, preview clips, and synopsis, let’s predict what is going to happen in ‘Home’.

So, the synopsis: “Bran trains with the Three-Eyed Raven. In King’s Landing, Jaime advises Tommen. Tyrion demands good news but has to make his own. At Castle Black, the Night’s Watch stands behind Thorne. Ramsay Bolton proposes a plan, and Balon Greyjoy entertains other proposals.”

Let’s break this up step by step. First of all, we have Bran training with the Three-Eyed Raven. This will mark the first time we’ve seen the young Stark since season five, and will likely be the beginning of something big.

This story arc is actually a little behind the books, but going on the photos and previously released videos alone, we can deduce that Bran will have a flashback and/or vision.

How do we know this? Well, in the trailers released before the show premiered, we saw Bran standing alongside the Night’s King - the leader of the White Walkers. As we know, Bran is currently unable to walk, plus in the photo above we can see Winterfell in the background, miles away from his current location. The question is, what will feature in these flashbacks?

Over the last year, rumours have been swelling around a scene in the Tower of Joy. While it is unlikely the show will go to that location this early on in the series, this could possibly be a flashback at a later date. For now, it’s conceivable that the episode’s name, ‘Home’, references Winterfell. What he sees there we can only guess: perhaps a vision of the Bolton family who are currently in charge? Or a flashback to when he was a child there?

Moving on to Jaime, who is ‘advising Tommen’. Already, we’ve seen in the preview Jaime coming head-to-head with the High Sparrow, with the Kingslayer aggressively confessing his sins. Likely, the Sparrow hear this as a threat and attempt to remove him somehow.

Chances are Jaime will end up heading away from King’s Landing, as he barely spends much time there in the books (yet, at this stage, Jaime’s story in the books is very different to in the show). Perhaps a feud with the High Sparrow would add to tensions between Jaime and Cersei: after all, she may hold him partly responsible for their daughter’s death. We haven’t seen a whole lot of interaction between the siblings/lovers at this stage, but it all seems quite tense. If Jaime does leave, could he perhaps be heading Home, to Casterly Rock?

Speaking of Cersei, in the preview clip we see her and Robert Strong (the newly reincarnated Mountain) coming head to head with the King’s guard on orders of Tommen. With Jaime giving advice to the King, will Cersei be trying to intrude somehow? More likely is Tommen is speaking with Margaery Tyrell who is currently locked up. If Cersei is afraid of the prophecy she was foretold as a child (something you can read about here), then she will want to stop the soon-to-be-Queen having anything to do with Tommen.

Moving onto another Lannister, Tyrion, who is demanding good news. Now, this really is unknown territory, as we have no idea what ‘good news’ he could be making for himself. The preview video shows him attempting to visit Khaleesi's dragons, but would they ever listen to him? How could he tame the beast?

Last we saw of Tyrion he was looking at a Red Priest giving a sermon to followers in the street. Does this hint at the future? Will he look to The Lord of Light for help? Unlikely, as he remains a cynic. From the stills, we can see Varys and Missandei sitting together, so perhaps they have learnt something about the Sons of the Harpy? One situation could be that Tyrion somehow makes it seem like he has control of the dragons and the people of Mereen believe it and therefore have more respect for his authority.

Meanwhile, at Castle Black, The Onion Knight is stuck in a room with loyal Jon Snow followers while Ser Allisar attempts to break in. Hopefully, the Wildlings will raid the castle and help the outnumbered group, otherwise we have no idea how they’re getting out alive. And they can’t kill Davos this early on, can they?

Of course, The Red Woman is also locked in there as well. There’s always the option of her using her powers to save the group, but with her seemingly giving up on the Lord of Light (which is likely why she took the necklace off), she’s unlikely to use her magic. Money is on the Wildlings and Jon Snow remaining dead.

Ramsey Bolton meanwhile proposes a plan and is likely going to head to the wall to raid Castle Black and hunt down Sansa. Not much else to be learnt here except he really needs her back, otherwise his father is not going to be pleased. Chances are the scumbag may be planning to kill his unborn brother or sister to stop them taking his place as the Bolton’s heir. He’s done worse before.

‘Balon Greyjoy entertains other proposals’ is quite interesting. We haven’t seen the Greyjoys in quite some time, yet in a still we can see Balon and Yara back together. The proposal could very well be heading to mainland Westeros and trying to get back his son Theon, who is no longer under Ramsey’s hold. If Balon has heard of Sansa and Theon’s escape, it would make sense for him to want to attempt a rescue.

Which brings us onto Theon, Sansa, Brienne and Podrick. With the four of them now together, the question is will they split up? In the preview they are talking about Arya, so will they go and look for Sansa’s sister? Keeping with the idea of ‘Home’ and the Greyjoys, Theon may very well argue they should head to the Iron Isles for safety. Hopefully, they won’t keep heading to Castle Black as Jon Snow is dead and Ramsey is expecting that move.

In conclusion, Bran’s heading home in a flashback, Jaime may be heading home soon, Tyrion is definitely not heading home (but could be facing dragons), Davos is praying for the Wildings' help, Ramsey is probably proposing to raid Castle Black, the Greyjoys might be going to war, Theon might be thinking of home and Arya… Well, she’s blind and being beaten up.
