Game of Thrones season 5: HBO drama will be first TV show to be screened in IMAX

Two episodes from season four will be shown before a season five trailer

Game of Thrones is to become the first TV series to be screened in IMAX cinemas.

Two episodes from season four of the HBO fantasy drama will precede the first trailer for season five, due to air this coming spring.

The shows will be remastered in the IMAX format run for a week from 23 and 29 January.

“The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” are the dramatic episodes believed to be getting the silver screen treatment, but further information on screenings and tickets will be available soon on imax.com.

“The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format,” said Pamela Levine, HBO’s chief marketing officer.

“We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”

Game of Thrones was the most-searched TV show on Google last year and the most mentioned on Facebook, according to Deadline.

It won four Emmy Awards after leading the nominations with 19, and will compete for the Best Drama Series gong at Sunday’s Golden Globes.

So far, fans have only been offered a glimpse of what lies ahead in Westeros. A moody looking Tyrion, Jon Snow, Arya and Cersei were seen in HBO’s year-ender video, while a brief teaser showed an unidentifiable character in a rowing boat.

One-off preview special A Day in the Life will air on 8 February and provide some sneak peeks at the upcoming series.
