** Spoilers for The Walking Dead and graphic content below **

The Walking Dead’s season seven premiere will likely go down as one of the most brutal hours of television ever thanks to two major deaths and an arm almost being removed.

Of course, all the chaos was thanks to one character: Negan, leader of the Saviours, and the most dastardly Walking Dead character since The Governor.

After killing Abraham, Negan went after Glenn, whose head was beaten in with a baseball bat covered in barbed wire. Lovely.

In an attempt to recreate the iconic comic book panel from which the scene took inspiration, actor Steven Yeun was plastered with makeup to make it look like his eye was popping out.

Speaking after the controversial episode, Yeun revealed on The Talking Dead that he wouldn’t want Glenn to die any other way because the comic was so iconic.

The actor also spoke about his personal ambivalence about leaving the show, revealing in an interview: “I don’t know if I’ve fully processed it yet. This is something that will hit me maybe a couple of months from now.”

In other Walking Dead news, Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has spoken about how long his character will remain on the show.
