Euphoria: Season One - trailer

Actor and singer Zendaya has issued a statement to warn fans about the content of her new TV show Euphoria, ahead of its premiere on Sunday 16 June.

The Spiderman and Greatest Showman star acknowledged that the content of the addiction drama may be “triggering” for some fans, and that she would understand if people weren’t able to watch it and should do what is best for them.

“It’s a raw and honest portrait of addiction, anxiety and the difficulties of navigating life today,” she tweeted. “There are scenes that are graphic, hard to watch and can be triggering.”

“Please only watch if you think you can handle it. Do what’s best for you. I will still love you and feel your support.”

Tackling issues surrounding drug addiction, sex and social media, Euphoria has been described as a US take on Skins, but with “more nudity”.

Drake has also been confirmed as an executive producer on the show.

It has not yet been announced when Euphoria will be released in the UK, but it is expected to arrive on Sky Atlantic later this year.

Early reviews have been positive, with The Guardian hailing it as one of the year's best dramas and praising it for balancing shock appeal "with surprising sensitivity".

A piece for Esquire commented: "It's horrifying, yes, and salacious, but it's not just shocking for the sake of shock value.

"Euphoria, which delves into a generation struggling to come of age in a time of nude selfies, and dating apps, and easy access to pornography, does this with the purpose of trying to understand Generation Z and pinpoint the experience of being a teenager in 2019, while holding adults accountable for creating a f***ed up world and leaving their children to fend for themselves within it."
