2018 British Grand Prix in numbers

Lewis Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking sixth British Grand Prix as Sebastian Vettel won at Silvestone to clinch his fourth win of the season and extend his championship lead to eight points.

After a first-lap accident with Kimi Raikkonen, Hamilton found himself last but mounted a superb comeback drive to put himself back into contention and finish second, limiting the damage as best as he could, by finishing just two seconds behind his championship rivals - albeit with the help of two safety car interventions.

Raikkonen served a 10-second penalty for taking out Hamilton at the start, but recovered well himself to overtake both Red Bulls and come home in third, with Valtteri Bottas slipping from first to fourth in a handful of lap. Re-live the action below.

Lap 4: Hamilton is making ground up and has already moved his way up from 18th to 15th. The was more drama at the start too as Perez spun at the first corner, spun across the pit lane exit just as the two Williams' emerged and just avoided a serious accident there.

Hamilton meanwhile is reporting that something doesn't feel right, but he's got by Ericsson, Grosjean and Gasly and is now up to 12th already.

Lap 7: Penalty for Raikkonen! The Ferrari driver has been given a 10-second penalty for that collision with Hamilton, which he'll serve at his pit stop before the team can then change his tyres. Hamilton meanwhile is into the points as he passes Magnussen for 10th.

Lap 9: Lewis may believe he's driving a wounded Merc but he's absolutely flying out there as he gets by Ocon for eighth. Next up is Leclerc and within a flash he's past the Sauber for seventh. Those Red Bulls aren't safe here, and with Raikkonen facing a penalty, a podium could still be on here!

Lap 12: Hamilton breezes by Hulkenberg and that's him into sixth already, but now in front its the cars you'd expect him to be up against. He's got some work to do, with 12.4s to Ricciardo in fifth. Vettel is 27 seconds down the road, and he's going to need something like a safety car to get him back into the battle for the lead. Vettel meanwhile leads Bottas by 5.7s.

Lap 14: Raikkonen pits from fourth. He's got a hot head inside that helmet as he bickers with his engineer over the state of his front wing, and while he's not happy with it, it doesn't look damaged. He's out in 11th behind Magnussen, though gets by immediately on the Wellington Straight.

Lap 16: Raikkonen is keeping good pace on the hard tyres and quickly gets by Sainz and Ocon to move up to eighth, with Leclerc now in his sights. Hamilton meanwhile has cut the gap to Ricciardo to 9.5s.

Lap 19: Verstappen blinks and pits, just as Raikkonen gets by Hulkenberg. That elevates Ricciardo and Hamilton and Ricciardo pits at the end of the next lap, moving Hamilton into third with his pit stop still to go.
