Asda issues heartwarming message to female shoppers about women’s safety

Asda has issued a heartwarming message to customers, following a week during which discussions about women’s safety have been at the top of the public consciousness.

The supermarket made it clear that customers feeling unsafe could seek help from staff.

In a post to its Facebook page, Asda said that, "everyone has the right to feel safe”.

The post reads: "Please know that you can always take your time, wait inside to reach out to our colleagues should you be concerned for your safety.

"Customers and colleagues, we will be there for you."

The post has so far attracted over 12,000 likes with many commenters praising the supermarket’s approach.

One Facebook user wrote: "This is a great piece of advice, if anyone is near a Asda and is feeling scared. They can go seek help. Well done."

Another female shopper recalled an experience where an Asda security guard had advised her to stay inside the store longer to avoid an "unsavoury character" outside the shop.

She wrote: "I think people are missing the point. For once it’s not a Covid post - it’s a post about all of our safety, particularly ladies .

"I must say, I do shop alone and at night and there have been odd occasions where a member of Asda security has said to me, “Don’t leave just yet, there’s an unsavoury character outside” - I’ve always thanked them and felt safe."

Last week, many women shared their experiences of street harassment after the search for missing London woman Sarah Everard became a murder enquiry.

Women shared experiences of being catcalled, groped and assaulted while walking in public, as well as offering advice aimed at men on how they could make women feel safer.

Ms Everard vanished while walking home from Clapham to Brixton, South London, on 3 March.

Metropolitan police officer Wayne Couzens has been charged with the 33-year-old’s kidnap and murder.
