Pharrell Williams will receive the 2015 Fashion Icon Award at the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA) awards later this year.

It was announced yesterday that this year's recipient of the prestigious accolade will be the multi-talented American music star.

The Fashion Icon award celebrates an individual whose style has made an impact on popular culture on an international stage. Previous winners include Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss.

Pharrell is the second male recipient of the award with Johnny Depp previously winning in 2012.

"If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” commented designer Diane von Furstenberg, President of the CFDA.

Pharrell is well known for his keen interest in fashion and an array of fashion collaborations including with Uniqlo, Adidas, Moynat and Moncler.

The CFDA awards are an annual event celebrating outstanding contributions in American fashion.

Among the nominees this year are Joseph Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, and the Olsen twins for The Row.

The CFDA awards takes place on June 1st 2015.
