The ten most expensive bottles of wine in the world have been revealed.

The list, from www.wine-searcher.com compiled the bottles touted as the best in the business – with prices to match.

Although none come close to the £122,380 price tag for the 12-litre bottle of Chateau Margaux 2009 sold last year in Dubai, these wines don’t come cheap. If you’re thinking of picking up a bottle of each of the top 10 for nights at the local BYOB, think again: it’ll cost you £39,040.

Eight French wines made it onto the list, confirming France as the world’s finest wine-producing country. Perhaps more surprisingly, two German bottles round off the top 10, both in the top five.

The list was based on the average price of a standard bottle (750ml), and counted all available vintages. As conventional wine wisdom dictates, and this list shows, older wine is generally more expensive.
