A book based on The Independent’s chart-topping podcast, “Millennial Love”, is to be published by 4th Estate.

The podcast was launched in 2017 as an exploration of the questions, quirks and anxieties that consume the contemporary dating landscape.

Previous guests to have featured on the show include Three Women author Lisa Taddeo, activist Munroe Bergdorf, musician Jordan Stephens and Olympian Victoria Pendleton.

The podcast has received stellar reviews since its advent and garnered hundreds of thousands of downloads.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the podcast has addressed people’s novel approaches to dating and relationships during lockdown, from zoom first dates to quarantining with an ex-partner, in a series called “Millennial Love in the Time of Corona”, with an accompanying feature franchise.

Authored by “Millennial Love” host, Olivia Petter, the book will combine memoir with social commentary and anecdotes from famous faces and previous podcast guests.

With the aim of encouraging thoughtful and meaningful discussions about what it means to fall in love today, Millennial Love will expand on some of the issues discussed on the podcast, including how instant messaging has exacerbated anxieties, how dating apps have altered our understanding of attraction, and how Love Island has become the unlikely lens through which the consequences of so many of these things are exposed.

Michelle Kane, PR and publishing director at 4th Estate, comments: “I very much admire the breadth and style of Olivia’s writing and broadcasting on the topic of millennial love and its myriad facets and how she can make sense of something that can feel like a riddle to the rest of us!

I’m absolutely over the moon to be working with her on this project which I know will bring a lot of comfort and wisdom to readers.”

4th Estate is an imprint of Harper Collins UK and has published a wide-range of best-selling titles, including Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, Costa Novel Award winner Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor, Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom, Lena Dunham’s Not That Kind of Girl and Orange Prize-winner Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah.

Millennial Love will be published in summer 2021.
