Sarah Jessica Parker has announced her iconic Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, will be making a "brief reappearance".

The 53-year-old posted a video on Instagram of herself in character walking down a Manhattan street, dressed in a light green tulle skirt and gold lamé jacket.

“My old friend,” she captioned the clip, which sees her character walk to the soundtrack of the SATC theme tune in a pair of white lace sock boots.

“She is making a brief reappearance. Partnering with a great brand and supporting a cause we all care about. More to come," the actor added.

In the clip, the camera initially conceals the identity of Parker’s character, instead focussing on the sartorial icon’s glittery fingerless gloves and purple embelished clutch bag.

At the end of the video, the hashtag “#PourItForward” appears on screen as Bradshaw’s identity is revealed.

While the actor did not give the reason for her SATC character’s comeback, it is widely speculated the cause is a brand partnership or charity initiative.

A Google search of the #PourItForward hashtag directs readers to a charity wine tasting event in Ohio in association with the Miracle League of Central Ohio. Another links to a milk drive at a food bank in southern Colorado.

Unsurprisingly, SATC fans have shared their excitement at hearing Bradshaw is returning to popular culture.

One Instagram user commented on the clip: “Definitely about a million Carrie Bradshaw feels running through right now!!!! Don’t play like this.”

Another wrote: “Carrie! SJP forever!!!!”

Parker’s announcement comes after she confirmed the cast of the hit television show and film franchise would not be reuniting for a third Sex and the City film.

“It’s over,” she told Extra in September 2017.

“We’re not doing it.” The actor continued, “I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heart-breaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

Sex and the City aired in 1998 and left the small screen in 2004.

In 2008, a film version of the series continued following the adventures of Bradshaw and her friends. A sequel, Sex and the City 2, was released in 2010.
