Kraft Heinz company, the third largest food and beverage company in the US, has expanded a voluntary recall of Kraft Singles sliced cheese after receiving two new consumer complaints of choking in connection with the packaging issue, the company said on Thursday.

The food giant recalled about 335,000 cases of Kraft Single American and White American over concerns plastic stuck to the slices could cause a choking hazard.

This comes after the company made an initial recall of 36,000 cases of its famous American cheese slices shipped in US, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman in July after receiving 10 consumer complaints about the packing including three instances of consumer choking.

Consumers alerted the company that thin strips of the individual packaging were sticking to slices, resulting in a choking hazard.

The privately held company, which describes itself as ‘a global trusted producer of delicious food’, admitted the issue now affects 10 times as many cases as it first thought.

The expanded recall now includes shipments to Anguilla, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Netherlands Antilles, St. Kitts and St, Nevis, South Korea, St. Lucia and British Virgin Islands.

Consumers who purchased the product are encouraged to return it to the store where they purchased it for an exchange or full refund.
