Since Andrew Garfield was let go from the Spider-man franchise, he’s had no problem opening up about the frustrating side of being a celebrity.

And in his latest interview, Garfield speaks up on the ‘struggle’ of doing his job, admitting that he feels “like my head is wrapped in cellophane”.

Speaking to Vulture to promote his latest film, 99 Homes, Garfield seems disengaged from reporter Kyle Buchannan’s questions, preferring to let him talk than give his own answers.

“Why don’t you just do this interview? You’re saying the right s**t,” he says.

When he starts to open up, he admits he isn’t as articulate as Buchananan, and nods along to the journalist’s observations.

“Hearing you talk, I just suddenly feel like my head is wrapped in cellophane. How do we wake up, how do I wake up, what do I do?” he asks.

But as he talks, he begins to sound increasingly exasperated, questioning whether doing press for his movies will actually achieve anything.

“Why the f**k am I doing this?” he asks. “Coming in today to do interviews, I’m like, why? I know that I’m an actor and it’s part of the job and I feel lucky to get to do that, but with the interviews, it’s such a weird thing. What do I have to say?

The actor was discreetly dropped from the Marvel Universe earlier this year when it was announced the upcoming Captain America: Infinity War would feature a younger Peter Parker, played by 19-year-old Tom Holland.

Though his tenure as the web-slinger was relatively short, he admits he is glad to be out of it, saying his experience made him “insecure and scared”.

“[I] don’t really know who I am. Celebrity is the new religion, as far as I can see, along with money, power, status. It’s all the same umbrella — the seductive forces of evil, really.”
