At 6.36am on a busy working morning, what better things does Donald Trump have to do than begin tweeting that all is not chaos around him?

With little more than 60 days to do before he assumes the presidency, and with clear signs that the transition process is not going smoothly, the president-elect started attacking the media for suggesting otherwise.

“I am not trying to get “top level security clearance” for my children. This was a typically false news story,” he wrote.

A few minutes later, at around 7.13am, he turned his attention to the New York Times, one of his frequent targets for tweets, rebukes and insults.

"The failing @nytimes story is so totally wrong on transition. It is going so smoothly. Also, I have spoken to many foreign leaders.

"I have received and taken calls from many foreign leaders despite what the failing @nytimes said. Russia, U.K., China, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and more.

"I am always available to them. @nytimes is just upset that they looked like fools in their coverage of me."

Mr Trump repeatedly attacked the media during his election campaign, and accused outlets of inciting protesters in the days after his victory.
