Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Australia tour: Kate Middleton and Prince William become DJs and street artists in embarrassing hip-hop foray

The royal couple hit the decks and spray a wall at a youth project in Adelaide

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will do anything to show willing and enthusiasm for they are, of course, royals of the people.

The royal couple yesterday tried DJing - spinning the decks during a visit to a hip-hop youth project in Adelaide, as part of their tour of Australia. The pictorial results are every bit as embarrassing as you might imagine.

Neither were too keen to be the first on the decks. Prince William gallantly offered his wife the chance to go before him. "It's all yours," he said motioning to the Duchess to step up.

Presumably DJing was a hobby William never tried at Mahiki during his younger years.

"William's got lots more experience than I have," she said before gamely having a go.

Coached by DJ Shane Peterer, she turned out to be much better than her husband - who according to Peterer, shouldn't give up the day job yet.

"She was fantastic but he can fly a helicopter. So horses for courses," the DJ said.

It was quite a day for the couple, who also watched a BMX show - where they were presented with a skateboard emblazoned with the name of their son, George. They politely and disappointingly declined offers to have a go on the gift themselves.

William also attended a hip-hop class where he was asked by a student what his favourite genre of music was. A Slipknot fan he is not.

"I like house music, I still like a bit of rock 'n' roll and the classics and a bit of R'n' B," the prince told him. "I'm not a big heavy metal fan. I'd like to be but I'm not."

Later, the pair watched the Aerosol Angels group spray paint a mural. So inspired was William that he picked a can and started joining in.

"He did a pretty good job," said group leader Simon Burt, 36. "And he admitted when he'd finished his bit of art work that he was now addicted."
