Jennifer Lawrence reads negative comments about herself online: 'You try being 22, having a period and staying away from Google!'

The actress says fame has left her anxious about the way she is perceived

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted she searches for negative comments about herself online and worries what strangers think of her despite her considerable popularity and talent.

The Hunger Games actress eschews Twitter and Instagram, has a Facebook page she rarely writes directly on and avoids the celebrity circuit unless it is to promote a film. Yet the reluctant star has won legions of fans without endlessly promoting herself for both her acting ability and her candidness in the interviews she does choose to do.

This openness means the 25-year-old is often perceived as more 'human' than her peers, endearing her to her fans even more.

Her defiant reaction to having explicit images leaked online and her fight for equal pay in American Hustle are both signs of her enormous mental strength, but Lawrence said fame has left her anxious and admitted Googling herself to The New York Times.

“You try being 22, having a period and staying away from Google," she said. "I once Googled ‘Jennifer Lawrence Ugly.’"

Lawrence topped the Forbes highest paid actresses list in August and won her first Academy Award at 22, but said she still worries about how others perceive her.

“I can’t think of a more wasteful use of my time than to worry about this," she continued. "Why do I care what people think? But I do. I just can’t pretend I don’t care. I get really insecure about it. The world makes an opinion of you without ever meeting you. That worry should not bother me, but it does. It bothers me.

“I’m going to leave here and think, Oh God, why couldn’t I just have been cool and confident?"
