A man has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of robbery after he allegedly attacked a woman, reportedly on his wedding day.

Derry Flynn McCann was remanded in custody for the alleged offences, carried out in the early hours of 13 January.

The 28-year-old was arrested after a woman, 24, reported being attacked in Victoria Park in Hackney, east London, as she walked home from a night out with friends.

A man grabbed her and demanded she give him money, before dragging her into nearby bushes and repeatedly raping her.

Mr McCann, who was married on 12 January and had recently posted pictures of the ceremony on Facebook, was arrested by the Met Police after they issued a description of the suspect.

At this time, police say the attacker had been dress in a grey hooded top with a black body warmer, blue jeans, and grey trainers.

They said he was white, aged about 30, 5ft 8in tall and spoke with a London accent.

Mr McCann and his wife were married at The Vestry in Bromley-by-Bow, East London.

His wife appears to be heavily pregnant in pictures he shared online.

McCann appeared at Thames Magistrates’ court on 20 January charged with four counts of rape and one of robbery against the same alleged victim.

He is not thought to have entered a plea.

The case has been sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court with a hearing set for 16 February.
