Cardiff hairdressers becomes UK's first to offer 'quiet chair' for customers who do not want to chat
Salon owner Scott Miller says the option is designed for anyone who just wants 'a bit of peace and quiet'
A hair salon has become the first in the UK to offer customers who don't want to chat the option of a “quiet chair”.
Scott Miller, the owner of Cardiff-based Bauhaus, said the new option was designed to give clients a chance for a bit of peace and quiet.
He said: “Our team is full of brilliant conversationalists, it’s an important part of being a hair stylist, and most of our customers love coming in to have a chat.
“But at the same time, we understand people lead busy lives where they may have been communicating with people all day and want some relief.
“A trip to the hair salon is supposed to be relaxing, and while for some people that means catching up on what’s been going on in their lives, not everybody is comfortable with small talk.”

Show all 12Currently customers can only choose the quiet option when they book over the phone or in person, but the option is due to be rolled out online soon.
“We wanted to take the embarrassment away, and for customers to know we won’t be offended if they don’t want to do the small talk often associated with visiting the hair salon,” Scott added.
“I always say, if you’re asking your client where they’re going on holiday, you’ve lost.”
