Dramatic video from a deceased British jihadi shows the moment al-Shabaab militants fought Kenyan security forces in a night-time gun battle ten days ago.

The video was obtained exclusively by ITV News and was filmed by Thomas Evans, a 25-year-old from the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe who went by the name of Abdul Hakim after converting to Islam, and went to Kenya to join the terrorist group in 2012.

He was killed in the battle; a botched raid by al-Shabaab fighters on a Kenyan army base in early June.

The video shows dozens of the Islamist militants chanting and embracing before launching an attack on a Kenyan military base in Lamu County, on the country's northern coast.

Under cover of darkness, the militants can be seen approaching the base quietly, before suddenly the night sky is lit up by a barrage of gun fires from both al-Shabaab militants and Kenyan troops.

As the fighting continues, Evans appears to be hit and the camera falls to the ground.

At least 15 al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the clash, in which two Kenyan soldiers also died. A second white man killed in the attack has not been identified.

The footage also gives new insight into the militants, who use improvised explosives and prepare their raids with plastic containers.
