Officials say Boulder terror suspect planned attack for a year

The wife and five children of the man charged with a federal hate crime and 16 counts of attempted murder following a “targeted terror attack” in Boulder, Colorado on Sunday, have been arrested by ICE agents, according to reports.

Fox News reported on Tuesday that the family have been put into proceedings for “expedited removal” from the U.S.

Suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national, entered the U.S. on a visa that expired two years ago but was then granted work authorization lasting until March 2025.

The 45-year-old told authorities he spent a year planning Sunday’s attack and had researched and specifically targeted a “Zionist group.” A total of 15 people and a dog were injured in the attack on a “Run For Their Lives” event, which was organized in support of the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker shouted “Free Palestine!” before firing incendiary devices, including a “makeshift flamethrower” and Molotov cocktails, according to the FBI.

The injured are understood to be aged between 25 and 88 and were rushed to hospitals in the Denver metro area, with the eldest among them is also a Holocaust survivor.

As of Tuesday, three remained in hospital, per FOX31.

The FBI said Sunday’s attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism. Mohamed Sabry Soliman reportedly told police that he had specifically targeted what he referred to as a “Zionist group” and had been planning the attack for a year.

“He stated that he had been planning the attack for a year and was waiting until after his daughter graduated to conduct the attack,” a police affidavit says.

According to authorities, he said he would do it again.

What has Donald Trump said about the Colorado attack?

Donald Trump blamed Sunday’s flamethrower attack in Boulder on a familiar foe: former President Joe Biden.

In a Monday Truth Social post, Trump claimed that the suspect in custody had entered the U.S. under the former president’s “ridiculous open border policy.”

“Yesterday’s horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the United States of America,” the president said.

“This is yet another example of why we must keep our Borders SECURE, and deport Illegal, Anti-American Radicals from our Homeland. My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!”

Head of ICE says there's a 'big push' to find and deport people who have overstayed their visas

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Todd Lyons said there was a “big push” within the organization to find individuals like the man charged with a hate crime over the Boulder Molotov cocktail attack who had overstayed their visas.

“We have millions that have come in all across the last administration that have overstayed their visas and overstayed their welcome,” he said in an interview on Fox News.

“One of the main missions at ICE is to go ahead and arrest anyone we could take an enforcement action that has violated immigration law.”

He continued: “We want to go ahead and make sure we take these bad actors out of the country before anything like this happens.”

Bystander who helped the wounded was 'expecting something to happen'

A man working across the street from Sunday’s brutal attack, who helped tend to the wounded, said he had been “expecting something to happen” for weeks.

Chad Henderson, a worker at Pizza Colore, heard people screaming and filled two pitchers of water to sooth the burns of the victims.

He told FOX31 that he had seen the “Run for Their Lives” demonstration occur every week. “I see it every Sunday when I come by,” Henderson told the outlet. “Every Sunday, I’ve been expecting something to happen.”

Recalling the incident he added: “I was behind the counter. I heard people saying it was a fire... So, I hopped over them, saying ‘excuse me, please, get out of my way.’”

Henderson was shocked by the scene and the victims especially as one appeared to be in her 80s.

The oldest victim in the attack was 88, according to authorities.
