Sydney residents were treated to a stunning view on Wednesday evening when a double rainbow appeared over the city just before the sunset.

People took to social media in their droves to share their pictures of the two rainbows, which many were able to catch in their entirety, showing two perfect crescents across the sky.

The Australian Daily Telegraph reported that its photographer Brett Costello was driving home close to Sydney Airport when he noticed the sky, and pulled over to capture it.

“The thing that struck me was the intensity of it, I’ve never seen anything quite like it, it was so clear,” he said.

After the rainbows disappeared the city was blanketed by a red and orange sky as the sun set.
