Josh Kelly has revealed he has a “premonition” about his highly-anticipated fight against David Avanesyan and believes “everything is on point” heading into the European welterweight title contest.

The fight has been postponed twice before, with the fight originally scheduled for 2018 before illness ruled the Briton out of the contest in Sheffield.

While the Covid-19 pandemic pushed the bout back twice, once in 2020 and then again following the current lockdown in the UK.

But the pair will finally meet on Saturday at Wembley Arena and the winner could be in line to fight Conor Benn, who must first emerge victorious when he meets Samuel Vargas on 10 April.

But Kelly is relishing his opportunity to “prove everyone wrong” and cannot contain his excitement ahead of his first fight in 14 months.

“It’s time to prove everyone wrong,” Kelly told Sky Sports. “It’s time to prove that what I know is right.

“Mentally it’s down to me. I know where I’m at. Pure excitement, I can’t wait. I’ve had a smile on my face for weeks knowing this fight was coming.

“I’ve got ingredients that I’ve added that I will show on Saturday. I believe a stoppage win is coming.

“I genuinely believe that when I punch him, he’ll find out what power I’ve got, and he’ll start doubting the forward pressure that will so-called put on. I’ve got a good premonition, I have good energy. Everything is on point.”
