Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest
With their seventh straight win across all competitions, Aston Villa climb to sixth in the Premier League, holding on to beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Villa Park in an absorbing end-to-end contest. The Villans were totally dominant for most of a one-sided first half, with Rogers firing in a fine opening goal before Malen converted from close range to give the hosts a merited two-goal advantage. However, having steadied the ship at half-time, Nuno's side fought back valiantly after the break, throwing men forward and taking 13 attempts at goal. Though substitute Jota Silva did pull one back just before the hour mark, Forest - with an xG of 1.2 - couldn't find an equaliser, while Villa - recording an xG of 2.52 - threatened to score several times on the break. Murillo's stoppage-time thunderbolt almost snatched a point, but it ultimately clipped the crossbar, leaving the Tricky Trees to contemplate an increasingly rare defeat. They stay third in the table, with another week to reflect on their costly start to today's game before tackling Everton. Meanwhile, Emery's men have kept their winning run rolling into a mammoth clash next week, when they play Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. That's all from Birmingham today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
