The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Palmer starred as Chelsea thrashed Everton 6-0 to keep the pressure on the Toffees. The midfielder scored a perfect hat-trick in the first half, curling in a low finish into before heading in his second shortly after. He earned the match ball with a gift from Pickford after he intercepted a pass and chipped the goalkeeper from just outside the centre circle. Jackson made sure they finished the first half on a high, volleying in another just before the break. The Blues, who created an xG of 2.96 compared to Everton's 1.41 in the game, made a slower start to the second half, but Palmer got his fourth from the spot with a composed finish just after the hour mark. Gilchrist then came off the bench to drill in his first goal for the club in the 90th minute. Chelsea stay ninth, but are now just three points behind Newcastle United in sixth place. They now turn their attention to their FA Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday. Everton stay two points above the drop zone, but their goal difference has taken a significant hit. It's a huge game for them at the weekend as they host Nottingham Forest. That's all for today, goodbye!

GOOD SAVE! It's the first real save that Petrovic has had to make in the game. Beto gets a yard on Silva as he slides in, and the forward drills a low shot across goal, but the goalkeeper gets down smartly to protect his clean sheet.

Young swings an inviting cross into the far post from the right, and Beto is hovering. He makes things awkward for Petrovic as he tips it away, but Silva is on hand to properly clear the danger.

We're in seven minutes added time, and Everton are still trying to salvage a bit of pride. Tarkowski goes long looking for Beto, but the offside flag cuts his run short.

Chelsea are keeping Everton penned back in their own half, and are happy to patiently try and break them down. When Cucurella can't find space down the left, he goes back to the goalkeeper so they can start again.
