Follow live coverage as Chelsea face Everton today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea secured an important 1-0 victory against Everton in the Premier League as they continue their push to finish in the Champions League places. The game mattered very little for the Toffees, who are safe from relegation, but Moyes will be disappointed with the display nonetheless. Chelsea, who created 0.98 expected goals throughout, opened the scoring in the first half as Jackson turned in space on the edge of the box, and his driven effort found its way into the bottom corner. After the break, the Toffees improved, and they should have equalised as McNeil struck a volley from close range, but Sanchez was equal to it, making a superb diving save to deny him. Chelsea took their foot off the gas in the second half, but they were deserved winners in the end. The Blues face Liverpool next in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, while Everton host Ipswich Town next week. That's all for today, goodbye!

Everton win a free-kick just inside the Chelsea half, and they're going to throw plenty of bodies forward for this one. McNeil will take and he delivers to the back post, but Neto is there to win the header.

What a chance! Alcaraz is found in behind the Everton defence, and he floats an excellent cross to the back post. McNeil meets it on the volley and it's heading towards the bottom corner, but Sanchez makes a world-class save to deny him! That was the chance for Everton!

We're into the final five minutes of the game, and Chelsea are still looking pretty comfortable. Everton are showing glimpses of attacking threat, but not enough. Maresca's side have had chances to kill the game off - will they regret not taking them?

Chelsea win the ball back, and Palmer now drives at the Everton defence. He finds Cucurella, who fires from range, but Pickford saves. It falls to Jackson and he tucks it home from the rebound, but the Chelsea striker was in an offside position.
