Crystal Palace blew Arsenal away with a comprehensive 3-0 Premier League victory at Selhurst Park to dent the visitors’ top-four hopes and continue their own momentum under boss Patrick Vieira.

Results over the weekend had seen the Gunners leapfrogged by rivals Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification and they were unable to respond on a night to forget for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew put the Eagles in control after 24 minutes and Wilfried Zaha’s second-half penalty added deserved gloss to the score for the hosts, who extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions and moved up to ninth in the table. HT: Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal

Half-time: That’s the break and what a sensational half it has been for Crystal Palace. Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Andre Ayew have given them a 2-0 advantage. Arsenal have barely been in the match.

Much to ponder for Mikel Arteta and his players.

38 mins: Gallagher takes the free-kick quickly to zaha who tries to find Mateta in the middle but the Ivory Coast international failed to get back onside before the set-piece was taken and the flag is raised.

Kouyate brilliantly wins the ball back instantly though. This is relentless from Palace.

Zaha skips away down the left before laying it off for Mateta who strikes a venomous low effort which Ramsdale parries away before gathering at the second attempt.

Could have been three!

36 mins: Saka drops into the number 10 position to try and make something happen but ends up fouling Gallagher who doggedly will not give the ball up.

Moments later Gallagher wins it back again as he fights Xhaka and comes out with the ball. Another free-kick goes Palace’s way as Tavares takes Gallagher out. The England international is another who has been brilliant so far.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal

34 mins: Zaha has been absolutely imperious so far. He skips away from Saka and Cedric before feeding Mateta down the line. He in turn plays it inside for Mitchell who is bundled over but isn’t granted a free-kick for his troubles.

Referee Paul Tierney having a word with Mitchell after he then proceeds to take an age with a throw-in. You can’t be time wasting in the 34th minute. That’s illegal.

32 mins: Partey tries to catch Palace on their heels by taking a quick free-kick in the centre circle but Mitchell is alive to it and cuts it out before Saka can dart in behind.

A hit and hope long ball up in the air then leads to Lacazette clearly shoving Guehi over. That’s the most obvious foul a referee will ever give.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal

30 mins: Smith Rowe tries to make something happen with a burst down the left-hand side but it’s Clyne who matches him for pace and eventually Palace win a free-kick when the ball bounces off Smith Rowe’s arm.

A Vieira masterclass so far. What can Arteta do to change things up?
