Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa
It’s a birthday delight for Sarr as he bags a brace, and inspires Crystal Palace to a huge win and three points against Aston Villa. The game started very slowly but suddenly came to life after 20 minutes when Ramsey had the ball in the net, only to be denied by the offside flag. Palace hit back in the 29th minute when Richards headed the ball towards the goal and was denied by Martinez. His parry fell right into the path of Sarr, who was on hand to open the scoring. Before half-time, however, there was more drama as Villa had another goal disallowed, this time by VAR. Watkins found Rogers inside the box, and he finished well to level the game, or so he thought. Watkins was judged to have been marginally offside in the buildup, and Palace remained in the lead. In the second half, Villa came out fighting and equalised after seven minutes through Rogers and this time it counted. Watkins knocked on a long ball, and Rogers tucked a left-footed shot past Henderson to make it 1-1. Palace didn’t like conceding and responded with another goal for themselves. Mateta scored after what was a quiet game for him, and he was assisted by a great cushioned touch by Eze. Mateta curled his left-footed finish past Olsen and Palace regained their lead in the 60th minute. They weren’t done yet, and 12 minutes later, they made it three. Sarr got his second of the game and with it his best goalscoring season in the Premier League. Munoz crossed into the box from the right side, and Sarr finished brilliantly with a placed volley into the far corner. Nketiah was brought on with zero Premier League goals to his name, and in the 91st minute, he scored his first to make it 4-1 to Palace. Mitchell squirmed away from Bailey and fired a cross along the goal mouth, where Nketiah was waiting to tap home. That concluded an impressive display from Palace, who win only their third home game this season! They have also now played Villa three times in all competitions, and they haven’t lost in any of the games (W2, D1, L0). Palace finish the game with a huge 3.82 xG, eclipsing Villa’s 0.33 xG. Palace make a change up top. Sarr comes off after a birthday brace, and his goal tally in this match alone is two more (in the Premier League) than the man who is replacing him. Nketiah is on for the remaining few minutes.
