The Gunners take on the Blues needing to win to secure Champions League football next season with Maurizio Sarri’s side already securing it with a top four finish

Chelsea will face Arsenal in a London derby in the Europa League final.

While the Blues have already locked up their place in next season’s Champions League, the Gunners will likely be left needing to win in Baku to make it back to the top table of European football.

Maurizio Sarri’s side prevailed on penalties against Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals with Eden Hazard converting the winning spot kick.

Valencia failed to pose as much of a threat to Unai Emery’s side though, with a 4-2 win at the Mestalla sealing a comfortable 7-3 win on aggregate.

After the final round of Premier League fixtures on Sunday, both sides will have 17 days before the final, though Chelsea travel to the United States to face the New England Revolution in a friendly.

When is the Europa League final?

The final will be played on May 29 at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, with kick-off set for 8pm GMT.

Early team news

N’Golo Kante is recovering from a hamstring injury, but could return for the final. While Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger will be out. Andreas Christensen has picked up a knock in the semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek came off with cramp. Ethan Ampadu has a back injury and remains out.

Aaron Ramsey’s hamstring injury means he’s played his final match for the Gunners before this summer’s move to Juventus. Danny Welbeck, Denis Suarez, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are all out. Sead Kolasinac picked up a knock in Valencia, but should recover in time.

What’s at stake?

Not only is silverware on the line: vital for Emery to convince fans he is the right man moving forward and similarly for Sarri, but also personally due to his failure to win a major trophy in his career to date.

Arsenal, barring a collapse from Spurs and a big goal difference swing, will need to win this to quality for the Champions League, while the Blues have already locked that up with a top four finish, meaning they will have that consolation should they suffer defeat.
