Sergio Aguero struck twice as Manchester City fought back to beat Monaco 5-3 in a sensational Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

City trailed 2-1 at half-time and 3-2 after an hour of a pulsating last 16 first leg encounter but finished with a flourish to peg back the exhilarating Ligue 1 leaders.

Radamel Falcao scored two and missed a penalty for the visitors while teenage star Kylian Mbappe also got on the scoresheet.

But City, who took an early lead through Raheem Sterling and were controversially denied a penalty themselves, roused themselves when it mattered with late goals from John Stones and Leroy Sane securing victory.

19 mins: Close from Monaco. They nick the ball back and Mendy does very well down the left, dummying his way past Fernandinho and picking out Falcao with a low cross. Caballero runs out to meet him and makes a hash of collecting the ball, but he's saved when a Monaco player strays offside.

Aguero then makes a powerful run down the middle, exchanging passes with Sterling out wide, before winning a corner as the ball is whipped off his toes. City waste the set-piece, though.

What a goal from Saul...

23 mins: Superb from Fernandinho. The Brazilian picks out De Bruyne with an inch-perfect diagonal pass and the Belgian rifles the ball across goal looking for the run of Aguero.

It's a good pass and Aguero is unmarked in front of Subasic, but he fails to connect with the ball properly. Instead it skims across the inside of his boot and squirts across the face of goal. That should have been the opener.

26 mins: Fantastic work from Sane! The youngster beats two Monaco players on the edge of the box with a jinking run and spots Silva lurking, who he exchanges passes with. Sane gets back on the ball and finds Aguero with a powerful low cross, and it's a simple tap-in for the striker.

Shades of offside perhaps? But wonderful play from Sane, who is becoming more influential to City with every passing game.

Meanwhile, Atletico have gone two up in Germany and Leverkusen are in serious danger of throwing away this two-legged tie in the first half-hour. Antoine Griezmann with the potentially decisive second.

29 mins: It could be two here in Manchester. Sane, Silva and Sterling combine - City throwing bodies forward - but Sidibe is on hand to make a crucial tackle. City are flying.
