Sergio Ramos picked up his 25th red card of his career as Real Madrid suffered a shock loss at home to Girona to dent their La Liga title hopes.

Los Blancos took the lead through Casemiro, but fell apart in the second half, to now sit nine points off the pace with Barcelona top of the table.

Cristian Stuani equalised from the spot, with Portu stunning the Bernabeu into silence.

And Ramos, who had already picked up a yellow card for a hand ball for the penalty, took a second yellow with a dangerous high foot.

It follows Ramos' perceived attempts to pick up a deliberate yellow card midweek vs Ajax to clear the potential for a suspension in the quarter-finals.

Having been outplayed, but ultimately winning in Amsterdam against Ajax in the Champions League midweek, the loss is a big setback for Santi Solari.

Particularly after the derby win over Atletico, which took them back above their rivals into second, reigniting a potential title challenge.

But after Barcelona and Atletico clinched narrow wins, Real have now undone their hardwork.
