Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham inflict Everton’s first defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as they come away with an impressive 3-0 win. Spurs took the lead in the first 20 minutes. Bentancur headed back across goal, finding van de Ven to give Spurs the lead. O’Brien had a goal disallowed minutes later, with Ndiaye adjudged to have interfered in play from an offside position. The lead was doubled in added-time, as van de Ven was first to Porro’s corner. Spurs defended brilliantly in the second half, limiting Everton to very few chances. Vicario was forced into a few top saves, stopping Beto and Ndiaye from getting on the scoresheet. Sarr sealed the game moments from the end, with a header from a couple of yards out. Spurs had an xG of 2.08; with Everton having 1.53xG. Everton enjoyed more shots across the game, having more in the second half alone than Spurs did all game – however Spurs made theirs count. Before kick-off, Opta had Everton as the slight favourites, giving them a 41% chance of winning. Spurs climb up to third in the league, whilst boasting the best away record in the competition (four wins, one draw). Everton remain in 14th place after back-to-back losses. Everton fans will be disappointed with the poor performance and result – Spurs fans ecstatic after a perfect away display.
