FA Cup match preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez scored on his return to the Emirates Stadium as Manchester United saw off Arsenal to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup and extend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's winning start.

The two most successful sides in the competition's history played out an entertaining Friday night game as United secured a 3-1 win an an eighth straight victory for interim manger Solskjaer.

Sanchez and Jesse Lingard had set the visitors on course for victory before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled a goal back for the Gunners, only for substitute Anthony Martial to wrap up a comfortable win with a late strike.

Match Preview

There have been some classics between these two sides throughout the years and lets hope we're in store for another one tonight.

Despite boasting a home advantage this evening, many would probably argue that Arsenal are the underdogs coming into this fixture. The Gunners have only won one of their last six meetings in all competitions. Their home has been impressive, though, with Unai Emery's side only losing two matches at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have been in electric form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's return to the club, winning all seven matches since he took over as caretaker manager at the end of last year.

You never can quite tell what will happen in a fixture like this. The magic of the FA Cup, eh?

The Manchester United team news for tonight is the first to drop!

There are starts for Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in attack, with the former lining up against the side he left for United just over a year ago.

Sergio Romero is the man between the sticks, with David De Gea rested.

In total, there are five changes for United from the side that beat Brighton at Old Trafford last weekend.

Phil Jones makes way for Eric Bailly at the back, whilst Luke Shaw has recovered from illness and replaces Diogo Dalot at left-back.

In form duo Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are on the bench this evening.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil fails to make the starting line-up yet again and is reduced to bench duties again tonight.

Many had thought that Emery would give the German a chance to impress this evening but that is not the case.

Cech for Leno and Maitland-Niles for Bellerin are two of the three changes to Arsenal's side this evening. The third sees Alex Iwobi come in for Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners have won both of their only two previous FA Cup home ties against Manchester United.

They have reached the fifth round or better in seven of the past eight seasons. The last time they didn't manage it? Last season, when they were beaten by Nottingham Forest.

This could be a very, very good omen - Arsenal have gone on to win the FA Cup in the previous three seasons they've knocked out Manchester United - (2002-03, 2004-05, 2014-15).
