Unai Emery says there were positives to take from Liverpool loss

Reigning Carabao Cup champions Manchester City kept alive their hopes of a third consecutive victory in the competition after beating Southampton on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s team were joined in the quarter-finals by Manchester United and Liverpool a day later, with all three of the heavyweights kept apart in the quarter-final draw.

Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa also reached the last eight, while outside of the Premier League sides, Oxford and Colchester United remain involved after the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves and Sunderland crashed out.

Despite most teams putting out much-changed lineups for the fourth round fixtures, there was plenty of entertainment on show as well as promising youngsters to admire – and the odd fringe senior pushing their claim for game-time.

The only goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in the entirety of the League Cup fourth round - though he was hardly overworked by a much-changed Wolves.

Neco Williams

Grew into the game, defended with tenacity and then capped his Liverpool debut with a last-minute assist to send the tie to penalties.

A classy and composed performance from the Man City youngster, who pressed his claim for minutes as Guardiola's side struggle with injuries at the back.

Angelino

City's second impressive defender, though Angelino's best work came on the ball and on the front foot. Good delivery, but suffered an injury late on.

Youri Tielemans

A goal and an assist for the Belgian, who was one of only a couple of Leicester regulars left in the starting lineup.

Another big display from the Scot, who continues to make himself an undroppable part of Solskjaer's side.

Involved in most of Man City's best work, created plenty of chances and showed good movement throughout from the right wing.

When he plays this way, Arsenal's schemer serves non-stop reminders of what he's capable of. Shame for Unai Emery he doesn't do so more often.

Divock Origi

Struggled to impact initially from left wing, but once again came up big when Liverpool needed him. A brilliant turn and thunderous shot for his first goal; a stoppage-time overhead kick for his second.

Finding form in front of goal and proving he can be a reliable figure to lead United's attack. Scored a penalty and a free-kick to send his team through.
