England women are out of the Women's World Cup after an agonising semi-final defeat to the USA

Steph Houghton had an 84th-minute penalty saved as the Lionesses missed out on a place in the final, losing 2-1 to the United States in Lyon. Phil Neville's side headed into the last four with dreams of becoming the first senior England team - male or female - to contest a World Cup final since 1966. However, a third penalty miss of the tournament ultimately proved costly after a rollercoaster match.

The Lionesses need a big response now. Lucy Bronze gives the ball away and America break again on the counter attack. Bright and Houghton hold strong and block off Alex Morgan.

Beth Mead gets the ball on the left wing and she fires a clinical ball into the six-yard box. Who's waiting for it? Of course it's Ellen White. She meets the ball with a strong right foot and leaves Naeher with no chance to stop it!

27 mins: It's taken a while but England look more settled now. Lucy Bronze runs the ball into the centre of the box from the right wing and finds Mead. Mead slips before she can shoot and the ball goes out for a throw in. England throw it to Walsh who puts a ball into the box ans wins a corner.

31 mins: GOAL! USA lead again. A long ball comes out to the left wing before it's given to Horan. Horan flicks the ball into the box as Morgan makes her run. She beats Stokes to the ball and slots home the header.
