Transfer deadline day summer 2019: The deals done so far

The transfer window may have shut in England but that doesn’t mean that Premier League clubs can’t sell players – and sides from around Europe will be attempting to unsettle their stars ahead of their own deadline.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen have all been linked with big money moves away this month, while there is plenty of other business left to complete. Juventus are looking to offload Paulo Dybala while the future of Neymar – the most expensive player in the history of the game – is still up in the air. Could he yet leave PSG for a return to Spain?

Transfer deadlines

Italy’s Serie A is the next big transfer deadline. The Italian window shuts on 23 August.

The transfer window in La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 meanwhile shuts on 2 September.

We begin with the news that Paul Pogba has panicked Manchester United by intimating that he could still leave the club this month.

The midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

And, after helping United to beat Chelsea 4-0 this weekend, the midfield suggested he could yet leave the club.

“This question mark remains,” said Pogba. “Obviously there have been things said, but only time will tell.”

And here's Dermot Corrigan on why Real boss Zinedine Zidane is so desperate to sign the midfielder:

Arsenal could meanwhile lose Mesut Ozil this month.

The Daily Express has claimed that DC United were interested in signing Ozil to replace Wayne Rooney, who quit the club to sign for Derby County.

Arsenal announced on Friday that Ozil, 30, and defender Sead Kolasinac, 26, would not be in their squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener at Newcastle due to “further security incidents”.

The pair were targeted by carjackers in North London in July before two men were yesterday charged with a public order offence after a “security incident” outside the home of Arsenal midfielder Ozil.

Spurs are another club to fear losing a star asset this month.

Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move away all summer and is still yet to agree a contract extension with the north London club.

The Daily Mail this morning claim that Spurs have offered Eriksen the chance to double his £80k per week wages but that Eriksen still wants to leave the club.

Or, he could see out the final year of his deal before leaving on a lucrative free transfer to either Real Madrid or Juventus.

Here's why Saturday evening's match showed how much Spurs need to keep Eriksen:

Henry Onyekuru has completed a transfer from Everton to Monaco for an undisclosed fee, the clubs have announced.

Nigerian forward Onyekuru joined Everton from Belgian team KAS Eupen in 2017.

He spent spells on loan at Anderlecht and Galatasaray, helping the latter to the title in Turkey last season, and never played for Everton.

"AS Monaco is pleased to announce the signing of Henry Onyekuru from Everton," read a statement on the Ligue 1 club's official website. "The Nigerian offensive midfielder is committed to five seasons."

UEFA has punished Serbia's Partizan Belgrade and Bulgaria's Lokomotiv Plovdiv following incidents of racism at their Europa League matches last week.

Partizan Belgrade will have to play its next two home matches in UEFA competitions behind closed doors because of the racist behavior of its supporters during the 3-1 win over Turkish club Malatyaspor in the first leg of the third qualifying round.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv will have a partial closure of its stadium for its next home match following racist behavior by fans during a 1-0 loss to French club Strasbourg.

European soccer's governing body has ordered Lokomotiv to close the Tribuna Sportclub sector and display a banner with the UEFA logo and the wording "#EqualGame"

The second leg matches are on Thursday.

Holders Bayern Munich eased past fourth tier club Energie Cottbus 3-1 with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman and Leon Goretzka on Monday evening to move into the German Cup second round.

The Bavarians, who kick off their Bundesliga season on Friday against Hertha Berlin, should have scored several more after twice hitting the woodwork in the first half and missing plenty of other chances.

Bayern, who had progressed in each of the last 30 German Cup away games before Monday, went ahead when Poland striker Lewandowski volleyed in from close range on the rebound after Coman's header was blocked in the 32nd minute.

With Cottbus largely boxed into their own half it was only a matter of time before Bayern scored again and Coman, who had hit the crossbar late in the first half, made amends in the 65th, shaking off his marker and firing in a low shot from 18 metres.

Substitute Goretzka sealed their victory with an 85th minute strike before a stoppage-time penalty from Berkan Taz gave the hosts a consolation goal.
