Transfer deadline day summer 2019: The deals done so far

Review all the day's transfer news, rumours, gossip and done deals as Arsenal looked to seal the signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

The Gunners also continued to press on with their interest in Kieran Tierney, but one move that has been shelved is Gareth Bale’s lucrative transfer to China after Real Madrid pulled the plug on the deal yesterday due to the negotiated fee with Jiangsu Suning.

Manchester United meanwhile are reported to have agreed a deal with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, although a fee still needs to be agreed with Lazio to sign the midfielder, while confusion arose over the club’s interest in Bruno Fernandes as the club presses on with its squad revamp this summer. Review all the news below.

The summer transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday 8 August for all Premier League and Championship clubs, with the rest of Europe having until 11pm CET on Monday 2 September to complete their summer transfer business.

Manchester United have been rebuffed by Benfica following a move for their centre-back Ruben Dias.

That's according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, which adds that their offer fell short of the defender's €66m release clause.

United still retain interest in England defender Harry Maguire, but his £80m valuation by Leicester has lead to a delay in negotiations and the report adds that Leicester City are starting to grow frustrated with United over their interest and are considering ending talks in an effort to determine what will happen to the former Hull centre-back.

Former Manchester United left back Patrice Evra announced his retirement from soccer on Monday, bringing a trophy-laden 20-year career to an end.

Evra played for United between 2006 and 2014 and won nine major trophies, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League. He made more than 700 club appearances in total and also earned 81 caps with the France national team.

The 38-year-old also won two Serie A titles with Juventus after leaving United and said he will now move into coaching.

"My playing career is officially over," Evra said in an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport. "I started training for the UEFA B Coaching License in 2013, now I want to finish it and then go on to get the UEFA A license.

"In a year and a half, if everything goes well, I'll be ready to lead a team."

Following his stint with Juve, he was with French side Olympique Marseille but left by mutual consent in 2017 after kicking a fan before a Europa League match which led to a ban from European competitions by UEFA for the rest of the season.

Evra last played professionally in 2018 for Premier League side West Ham United, where he signed a short-term contract.

The Frenchman also posted a video montage of his career highlights on Twitter and Instagram with the caption: "Thank you, goodbye."
