Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid LIVE: Champions League result, final score and reaction tonight
All the fallout from Anfield
Liverpool are through to the Champions League last-16 two games early, after securing a fourth group-stage victory on Wednesday night courtesy of a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid.
Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane netted first-half goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side, while Diego Simeone’s men saw their attempts to get back into the game all but disappear after Felipe was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Mane. Both Jota and Luis Suarez saw goals ruled out for marginal offside calls at either end in the second half, while the Reds spurned several other opportunities to move even further clear on the scoreboard.
Ultimately it mattered little, with top spot now guaranteed for Liverpool even with two group matches still left to play, while Klopp was also boosted by the return of Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara after injury - but lost Roberto Firmino in the second half. Atletico, meanwhile, sit third in the group, a point behind Porto who they play in the final gameweek.
Second half: Liverpool 2 - 0 Atletico Madrid
Kick off: Jurgen Klopp does make a change at half-time and he brings Roberto Firmino on for Sadio Mane. Good game management this, Atletico were trying their best to get Mane sent off too towards the end of the first half.
Elsewhere in the Champions League
Manchester City are also in action this evening. They’re drawing 1-1 with Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden put the home side in front after 15 minutes but a John Stones own-goal has got the Belgian team back in the game.
Jota and Mane give Liverpool comfortable lead over Atletico
Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane both scored in the first half at Anfield to give Liverpool a comfortable two-goal lead over La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Mane is on a yellow card so may be replaced by Jurgen Klopp at the break to avoid a second one. So far so good for the Reds who will qualify for the knockout stages with a win tonight.
Half-time: Man City 1-1 Club Brugge
Phil Foden’s opener for Man City against Club Brugge was cancelled out when John Stones scored an own goal. Pep Guardiola’s side enter the break with the scoreline 1-1.

45+2 mins: Liverpool have had it all their way over the first 45 minutes at Anfield. Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane have given them a two-goal lead after both players got on the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold crosses.
Atletico’s Jan Oblak made a handful of decent save to stop Liverpool increasing their lead but Felipe has been sent off for dissent and the Spanish side are once again down to 10-men.

Two added minutes to play in the first half.
Liverpool 2 - 0 Atletico Madrid
42 mins: Save! Another great save from Jan Oblak! Liverpool recover the ball in the middle of the pitch and Henderson passes it out to Oxlade-Chamberlain. He gives it to Tsimikas who swings a fine cross into the six-yard box. Jota makes a run to the near post, meets the ball with a solid header but Oblak parries the ball away from close range. Brilliant save!

39 mins: For the second time in two games, Atletico Madrid are down to 10-men. Hermoso, Suarez and most recently Koke are also on yellow cards.
Save! Alexander-Arnold gets forward on an underlapping run and Henderson picks him out. He chips it over and defender and finds Salah in the box. Salah shifts to the left after a lovely spin and drills a shot at goal but Oblak leaps to his right and palms it away.
RED CARD! Felipe is off!
Liverpool 2 - 0 Atletico Madrid
36 mins: What’s gone on here?! Atletico are down to 10-men. Felipe has to go. Felipe clips Mane’s ankle to bring him down. Referee Danny Makkelie calls the defender over three times to book him but Felipe ignores the official. Eventually the referee jogs over and pulls out a straight red! Probably for dissent as the challenge didn’t seem that bad.
Luis Suarez argues against the decision and he’s shown a yellow card too!
Liverpool 2 - 0 Atletico Madrid
33 mins: Liverpool look to play the ball out from the back but Atletico’s press seems to have penned Van Dijk in the left-hand corner. He sends a long pass up towards Mane who wins the ball in an aerial challenge with De Paul and flicks it to Salah. Liverpool have a counter-attack developing as Jota sprints down the middle and Salah carries the ball up the pitch. He should play Jota in but holds on to the ball too long, Jota’s runs offside and Salah gets tackled.
