Arne Slot led the team to the top-flight title in his first year at Anfield as Liverpool won the Premier League for a second time in five years
Liverpool won the Premier League for the second time in five years, and a 20th top-flight title overall, when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The celebrations began as Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah all scored for the Reds who secured the trophy before the end of April and brought manager Arne Slot his first piece of silverware at Anfield.
Slot took over as boss in the summer following the shock departure of Jurgen Klopp last year but he manoeuvred the team that the German had rebuilt and forged them into repeat Premier League champions. Liverpool have an unassailable 82 points with four matches to play and have swept their competition aside with seeming ease this year.
“It is incredible to win this with our fans,” Mo Salah said after victory was confirmed. “This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.”

The end of the Wolves curse
Liverpool fans had cause for optimism at the start of the season when they saw, for once, they weren’t hosting Wolves on the final day of the season.
Since 2018/19, the Reds have welcomed Wolves to Anfield on Premier League D-day three times - and each time, it has coincided with the demise of their title push for that campaign.
In 2019, they beat Wolves 2-0 to take their tally to an eye-watering 97 points. But, infamously, it wasn’t enough as Man City did the business in Brighton to finish on 99.
Then, in 2022, Wolves came to play again. Liverpool started the day a point off City, but looked like they would have a chance to pip them to the crown when Villa went 2-0 up at the Etihad. This time, however, Wolves were proving harder to break down. They went ahead in the third minute before Sadio Mane equalised, and it would take until the 84th minute for Liverpool to complete their comeback and take the lead through Mo Salah. But by this time, City had staged a recovery of their own and let 3-2 over Steven Gerrard’s Villa. Heartbreak.
And last season - while Liverpool’s title hopes didn’t exactly die on the final day - they finished a season defined by a failed title push at home to, you guessed it, Wolves. It was Jurgen Klopp’s farewell more than anything, but lest we forget the Reds were on course for the title no more than a few weeks before. How perfect that would’ve been...
The moment it was wrapped up?
There were a lot of important wins during Liverpool’s season that led them to clinching the title in such comfortable fashion. The dramatic 2-0 at Brentford, the early-season 3-0 at Old Trafford, the comeback 3-2 at serial strugglers Southampton.
But it was away to Manchester City where fans truly started to believe they were on course number 20. It’s when I booked leave for the final day!
Never had a trip to the Etihad been so easy, dispatching Pep Guardiola’s side 2-0 through two first-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.
It took them 11 points clear of chasing Arsenal, who were savaged by an attacking injury crisis and never looked like making up the deficit.
Trophy parade route
With the trophy parade confirmed, here is path Liverpool’s open-top bus will follow as fans line the streets.
The same route as the 2019 and 2022 parades, the bus will start at Allerton Maze in the city’s south. It will then head north on Queens Drive towards the Fiveways roundabout in Childwall before turning onto the Rocket flyover.
From there, it will journey along Mill Bank and West Derby Road, past Newsham Park, before wiggling through Islington and onto Leeds Street.
It will then hit The Strand and finish on the waterfront in Wapping, where thousands upon thousands of fans will gather.
Will Liverpool get a guard of honour?
Liverpool are officially Premier League champions - and precedent tells us they’ll receive a guard of honour in their next game, as they travel to Chelsea.
There’s nothing in the rulebook that enforces a guard of honour, but clubs often partake in one as a sign of respect to the league winners.
Liverpool infamously received a guard of honour from long-time title rivals Manchester City when they won the league in 2020, which occurred in front of no fans.
Mo Salah chasing another record
Mohamed Salah’s strike against Spurs took him to 28 goals this season - and when you add his 18 assists, it takes him to 46 goal contributions across the campaign.
Only Alan Shearer and Andy Cole recorded more in a single Premier League season - both notching 47 - but those were both during 42-game seasons.
Salah has four games to beat the record - and it’s fully expected he will.
Liverpool know how to do a trophy parade
Liverpool might have missed out on a trophy parade for their Premier League title in, but they staged two open-top bus spectacles during the Jurgen Klopp era.
They memorably celebrated their 2019 Champions League triumph in front of an estimated 750,000 supporters in the city, but it was their parade in 2022 that was truly remarkable.
Despite having narrowly missed out on another Champions League title the night before, fans came out in their hundreds of thousands to cheer on the players upon their return from Paris, choosing to wildly celebrate their League Cup and FA Cup double rather than wallow in the sadness inflicted by Real Madrid.

Will Jurgen Klopp be at the parade?
Officially, there has been no word yet from Liverpool that Klopp will be at Anfield when they lift the Premier League trophy on Sunday May 25, or the subsequent parade the day after.
But it seems very much possible.
Klopp, 57, will return to the city two days prior, as a guest speaker at the LFC Foundation’s annual Gala Ball on Friday 23 May. The German is an honorary ambassador for the club’s official charity.
He will attend the black tie event at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, with the prospect of him staying in the city over the weekend for the title celebrations a possibility.
Liverpool to finally get their Premier League parade
Liverpool fans were told in 2020 that they would, at some point, get to celebrate ending their 30-year wait for a Premier League title with their players in the streets of the city.
Five years on, they will do just that - just with another league trophy under their belt.
