Follow live coverage as Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Mac Allister works his corner short to Szoboszlai, who wraps his left foot around the ball to curl it towards the back post from an altered angle, but Danso is there to nod it behind and give Liverpool a second try from the other side.

Van Dijk’s ball over the top looks to drop kindly inside the area for Gakpo, but Danso reads the danger and steps over to head the ball away, knocking it down for Spence to keep possession.

Gakpo is a bit too unselfish after receiving Mac Allister’s pass through the lines in an onside position. With only Vicario to beat, the Netherlands international instead opts to square a pass for Salah to finish into an empty net instead of shooting himself with his right foot. A good idea, the connection fails to come off, with the errant pass put in front of the winger and behind for a goal-kick.

Gravenberch steals the ball back from Solanke in midfield and spreads play out to the left for Robertson, whose first-time cross from wide is blocked at the outset by Spence.

With nothing to lose, Tottenham should approach the second half in an even more open manner as they try to get back into the game and extend Liverpool’s wait for the title. Richarlison netted last game and will be an option off the bench in any one of the forward positions, while Kulusevski and Porro could add a bit more creativity through the middle and on the flank. For the Reds, Slot will not want to invite pressure and sit back, as even a draw is good enough to seal the Premier League title. Jones and Elliott may be introduced to freshen the legs in midfield with time winding down, and Nunez could be brought on in place of the booked Gakpo to help stretch the pitch in search of even more joy.

Early nerves crept in to leave Liverpool behind after just a dozen minutes, but Slot’s side corrected course and found the back of the net three times in just over a quarter-hour to give the hosts a 3-1 lead over Tottenham at the interval. The visitors silenced the crowd early, making the most of their first shot on target to take the lead through Solanke’s header via a Maddison corner, but the deficit seemed to wake up the Reds, who began to pour forward with urgency. Diaz restored parity exactly 271 seconds after the opener with a close-range sliding finish that was correctly given following a VAR check for offside, and Mac Allister put the hosts ahead a short time later with a thumping hit from distance. Gakpo would add the cherry on top and double the advantage with just over 10 minutes to go in the half, digging out an accurate shot to beat Vicario at his bottom corner after a Mac Allister corner was not properly cleared. Despite finding the back of the net on three separate occasions, Liverpool have only generated an xG of 1.16, while Tottenham’s 0.21 is enough for a single strike.
