Man Utd 2-0 Tottenham: Michael Carrick’s men win a fourth game in a row
Manchester United made it four wins from four matches under Michael Carrick’s leadership as they swept Tottenham aside with a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford.
Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card in the first half as Tottenham struggled to assert themselves on the game with the hosts controlling possession and unafraid to shoot.
The opening goal came courtesy of a slick corner move as Bruno Fernandes found Kobbie Mainoo in the box before he pulled it back to Bryan Mbeumo for a guided finish.
With Spurs down to 10-men they offered little threat to the hosts who mounted wave after wave of attack on Thomas Frank’s defence before the visitors were finally broken late in the game.
Diogo Dalot’s cross from the right wing picked out Bruno Fernandes who nudged the ball home to end any thoughts of a Tottenham equaliser and confirm United’s spot in the top four for another week.

Thomas Frank may have been vindicated. Sadly for him, he was beaten in the process. Under Frank, Bryan Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season. When the Dane joined Tottenham, he hoped to lure Mbeumo across London with him.
Instead Mbeumo joined Manchester United, and with a certain inevitability, he, along with Bruno Fernandes, duly scored in their 2-0 victory over Spurs. He has struck home and away against Tottenham this season. Spurs also targeted Eberechi Eze, who went to Arsenal and got a hat-trick against them.

How is Romero feeling?
"He is disappointed because he knows this red card could have been avoided so he apologised,” said Vicario.
“He is our captain and today he made a mistake but we know the player he is and he is going to come back stronger and help us massively throughout the season."

"It depends how you see things in life [are Spurs in a relegation battle]. The reality is that in terms of results we have struggled a lot. Two wins in the last 16 is not acceptable for this football club but we don't have to forget how we are trying to push ourselves in tough conditions.
“This is the reality. Of course we have had a brilliant Champions League campaign so far and playing every three games I have already played 36 games and I am proud of myself for doing this but for the outfield players it is tough, so it depends how you see things in life."

"It is so tough. Especially when you come to play in a stadium like this one. But I am proud of my team-mates because we showed a lot of resilience and hard work throughout the game. It is tough when you are one man less to try and overturn a result that is already 1-0.
"I am proud of my team-mates, so so proud, because they put all the character and effort in today and to do it 10 v 11 is a massive reward for what we want to show for our football club, for our fans and of course the result is another defeat which is tough to accept but today - we need to take the positive that can take us into Tuesday's game."

Michael Carrick oversaw a fourth straight victory as revitalised Manchester United capitalised on Cristian Romero’s red card to extend Tottenham’s wait for a first Premier League win of 2026.
The Red Devils have been reborn since the short-term appointment of their former midfielder, whose honeymoon period continued as triumphs against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham were followed up on Saturday lunchtime.

Four wins in a row for Michael Carrick’s men sees them just three points behind Manchester City in second place.
They are still nine behind the league leaders Arsenal and will need the teams above them to continue dropping points if they hope to move further up the table.
13 games left is still time to move up but Arsenal in particular look very consistent.
No wins for Spurs in 2026
Tottenham still haven’t won a Premier League match in 2026 and we’re now in February.
Thomas Frank’s men are under real pressure and remain in the bottom half of the table with their run of horrible form continuing.

“Thomas Frank is beaten in part by a goal from a player he coached at Brentford, in Bryan Mbeumo, which may rather sum up his fortunes at Tottenham.
“United's total of 23 shots spoke to their attacking intent but Spurs may see similarities with their December defeat to Liverpool, another match shaped by a first-half red card.
“But it is seven league games without a win for them now. The team who finished 17th last season could be 15th tomorrow.”
