Newcastle United thumped Manchester United 4-1 to go fourth in the Premier League and claim their first league double over the Red Devils since the 1930s.
Harvey Barnes scored twice in the second half, either side of goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, as Newcastle leapfrogged Manchester City and Chelsea and took a huge step towards securing a Champions League spot for next season.
With manager Eddie Howe in hospital, Newcastle made a bright start and opened the scoring when Tonali volleyed in Alexander Isak’s clever dink. Alejandro Garnacho equalised before half time but Barnes scored a quickfire double after the restart.
Ruben Amorim took the decision to rest Andre Onana after his errors against Lyon in midweek but it did not stop another goalkeeping mistake as Altay Bayindir’s misplaced pass was punished by Guimaraes for Newcastle’s fourth.
The visitors remain 14th and their season now hinges on Thursday’s Europa League second leg against Lyon, with Joshua Zirkzee a major doubt after limping off in the second half with a hamstring injury. Follow all the Premier League reaction with our live blog below:

Ruben Amorim explains decision to leave Andre Onana out of Manchester United squad
Ruben Amorim has explained his decision to take Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana out of the firing for the visit to Newcastle.
Onana made two high-profile mistakes against Lyon on Thursday and Amorim said he wanted to let the goalkeeper “disconnect” and clear his head.
Onana is still expected to be recalled for Thursday’s second leg of the Europa League quarter-final with Lyon but his deputy Altay Bayindir making his belated Premier League debut at St James’ Park.
"These are normal things, sometimes you have to push the player to play again or let them disconnect,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “Tomorrow he’ll be in training to prepare for the next one. This was a good time to disconnect.”
When asked to explain how Onana took the news, Amorim said: “He was OK. You don’t need to like [the decision] but you need to understand because I explain every situation. It’s a normal situation. We have to manage everything, the mental aspect is really important and it’s just one game."

Manchester United investigate treatment of fans after Lyon travel chaos
Manchester United are looking into the treatment of their supporters in Lyon after police used tear gas following Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final.
Thursday’s first leg in France was attended by 2,800 away fans, who were required by local authorities to travel to a conference centre 13 miles away from the city centre to collect wristbands before boarding shuttle buses to the ground.
The significant expense and inconvenience of those demands were compounded by a malfunctioning public transport network and large queues at the pick-up point before the fans were taken to the Groupama Stadium in the east of the city.
More problems followed the 2-2 draw against Lyon, with tear gas used by police as fans were held back for an hour.

Man United’s dreadful season was encapsulated in a 19-minute period when these two sides met at Old Trafford in December.
Newcastle toyed with their hosts and found the breakthrough in just four minutes through Alexander Isak, before Joelinton doubled their lead 15 minutes later.
The Magpies could have easily had more in what was a thoroughly-deserved win - and they’ll be hoping for something of a repeat today.
