Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Fulham look very dangerous every time they break forward in numbers. This time, Iwobi starts a counter-attack for the visitors and feeds the pacey Traore. The Spaniard wastes no time in sending a cross in, and it almost drops to Jimenez, but the Mexican can't get anything away towards goal.

Fulham are keeping the ball well, but Newcastle's defensive shape is looking extremely strong. The visitors are still having shots at goal, but the Magpies look dangerous on the counter-attack with the pace of Gordon and Murphy.

That chance was almost a carbon copy for Murphy. It was potentially an easier opportunity than the first, but Leno got his angles spot on. Fulham have looked much better since going 1-0 down, but the home side are looking extremely dangerous on the counter-attack.

CHANCE FOR FULHAM! The visitors have come alive after a slow start to the game. It's a super break by Sessegnon down the left-hand side which opens the game up. His cross is a teasing one for Jimenez who can't quite get the ball under his spell in time. There are Newcastle bodies all around him, but he does squirm a shot at goal which deflects away for a corner kick. However, the resulting set-piece comes to nothing for the Cottagers.

WHAT A MISS! From the resulting set-piece there's a fight for the ball at the back post, which hits Burn and drops kindly for the in-form Woltemade from six yards. However, the German smacks his effort against the post when it was easier to score! That should have been 1-0 to the hosts.

Elanga makes an instant impact as he wins a Newcastle free-kick on the right flank. Tonali takes the set-piece, but Iwobi clears away the danger. That was really poor from the hosts.

The full-time whistle blows at St James' Park as Newcastle United defeat Fulham 2-1 after a last-gasp winner from Guimaraes. The hosts took an 18th-minute lead after Murphy capitalised on Bassey's error to race through on goal before firing in a lovely shot in off the post. Marco Silva introduced Kevin at the start of the second half and the Brazilian made an instant impact. The substitute delivered an exquisite cross from the left flank which was met by Jimenez at the far post, but the Mexico international saw his effort hit the crossbar. The ball kindly fell to Lukic, who jumped highest to head into an empty net. The Magpies should have taken the lead after an unmarked Guimaraes headed over Leno's crossbar from six-yards out. The former Lyon midfielder was also unfortunate to see his close-range effort fly narrowly past the left-hand post. However, Newcastle's captain took advantage of Leno's poor attempt at clearing Osula's late effort by burying a first-time shot into the bottom-right corner of the net. The result means Newcastle climb to 11th in the Premier League table with the Cottagers languishing in 16th place. The Toon Army created a host of chances throughout the game, highlighted by an xG of 2.05, whereas the visitors recorded a slightly lower xG of 1.48. Eddie Howe's side will now host Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before facing West Ham in the Premier League next Sunday. Meanwhile, Marco Silva's side will travel to Wycombe for the EFL Cup on Tuesday before hosting Wolves in the league next Saturday. Thanks for reading and take care!
