Level at the interval, Barnes’ second-half brace decided the fixture and secured Newcastle United’s first league double over Manchester United since 1930-31, courtesy of a 4-1 win. Joelinton’s disallowed goal under a minute into proceedings didn’t matter in the end for the result, with the Magpies eventually putting themselves ahead 23 minutes later through Tonali’s volley at the end of a flowing move. Garnacho pulled one back ahead of half-time to give the match an air of parity, but any thought of that ended four minutes into the second period, when Barnes popped up to tuck Murphy’s pass over the line and into an empty net. The winger would take advantage of Mazraoui’s slip just after the hour to double the advantage, and his personal tally, and more errors at the back would present Guimaraes with the chance to make it four, after Bayindir’s clearance was sent right into the chest of Joelinton on the edge of the area. Clinical and efficient, Tindall’s team created an xG of 2.09 and scored with more than half of their efforts on target, while Manchester United laboured with 0.61 xG and largely failed to create opportunities to test Pope. The Magpies go into fourth with the win ahead of a match with Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Manchester United stay 13th and host Wolves on Sunday after their second leg with Lyon on Thursday. That concludes our commentary of the Premier League fixture between Newcastle United and Manchester United - we hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Hojlund gets into Newcastle’s penalty area and looks to work a bit of space ahead of Schar to work a shot, but the striker holds on a little too long. Running out of room, he’s forced to eventually hit a low effort towards goal, but it’s easily turned behind and out for a corner by the centre-back.

HOJLUND HEADS WIDE! Shaw approaches the penalty area before opting to whip a dangerous, left-footed cross to the edge of the six-yard box for Hojlund, who makes great contact and cranes his neck to put an effort on goal from close range, only to miss the target entirely!

Victory for Newcastle would make them the fourth team to do the Premier League double over Manchester United this season, the most different sides to do so in a single top-flight campaign since 1957-58 (also four).

It looks to be a stop-start final 10 minutes, with both sides making a number of substitutions and niggly fouls to break up play. It appears that the visitors are resigned to their fate, and will go three Premier League games without a win for the second time since February, leaving them adrift in 13th.
