Follow live coverage as Newcastle United face Nottingham Forest today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest

Newcastle hold on to get back to winning ways with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park, despite a late comeback by the visitors. They led 4-1 at the break, after Forest took an early lead through Hudson-Odoi, but the home side responded quickly through Miley, before Murphy fired them ahead. Isak then scored a brace, the first coming from the penalty spot to make it 4-1 at the interval and it looked like they had the three points comfortably wrapped up. They almost made it five shortly after the restart when Schar struck the post with a header from a corner, but that’s as close as Newcastle came after the break. Forest were excellent in the second half, putting in a much better performance and capitalised on some sloppy play by Newcastle. They made it 4-2 just after the hour mark through Milenkovic and then had several chances to score more, with Murillo going closest with a header. The visitors kept up the pressure and were rewarded late on, with Yates grabbing a third on 90 minutes to make it 4-3, but then ran out of time to complete the comeback. This win moves Newcastle up to fifth in the table, ahead of their next game against Liverpool. Meanwhile Forest remain third and they’ll face Arsenal next time out. That’s all from us today, we hope you enjoyed the game!

Decent chance! Milenkovic is found in space in the penalty box and powers a header towards far corner of the net, but his aim is way off and it doesn't trouble Pope.

We're into the final 10 minutes of the game now, will we see anymore goals here? There's a nervy atmosphere inside St James' Park, despite Newcastle having a two-goal advantage as they've been poor in this second half.

CHANCE! Murillo with a great opportunity to make it 4-3! The defender beats Tonali to the ball as a corner is whipped in and he powers his header towards the top right corner, with Pope stranded, but is flies inches wide of the post.
