Follow live coverage as Nottingham Forest face Everton today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Nottingham Forest vs Everton

A late goal steals the points for Everton, as they beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 away at the City Ground. While earlier in the game, the travelling Evertonians could be heard chanting: "Champions League, you're having a laugh", Forest's UCL dreams won't be hindered by this defeat. That said, despite news this week revealing the top five will qualify, the 94th-minute score-settler from Doucoure, will still sting for Forest, as it's now two defeats on the bounce. In a game that could easily be summarised as a half-chance showreel where Harrison shone, it was actually to be his replacement that caused the decisive blow as Everton effectively underperformed their 1.30 xG. Four minutes after emerging from the bench, McNeil dispossessed a tired Murillo before threading through a lovely ball for Doucoure in behind on the left. He powered past a despondent Sels, as the away behind him went ballistic. Denied their fifth consecutive clean sheet, Nuno's side also struggled at the other end, registering just 0.49 xG as Wood was often found wanting. This is a massive win for Everton, while Forest will be setting their sights firmly on next week. Thank you for joining us today. We hope you enjoyed the game!

The check is over on the Beto penalty appeal. With Murillo not being seen to have done enough, the claims are waved away. We restart play with the Forest free-kick from the Gueye foul.
