Premier League weekend round-up

Southampton are the visitors to Goodison Park as new Everton manager Marco Silva takes charge of his first home league game.

The hosts were dug out of a hole last weekend by new signing Richarlison, who scored a goal in each half at Molineux against Wolves to ensure the new era under the Portuguese did not begin on a losing note.

Silva’s team were rocked twenty minutes after the Brazilian’s opener after Phil Jagielka was sent off in the first half. A similar result was in store for Southampton the following day, when they were held to a goalless draw by Burnley at St Mary’s.

Keeper Alex McCarthy and new loan signing Danny Ings were particularly impressive for Mark Hughes’s side.

Live updates:

What time does it start?

Everton vs Southampton kicks off at 3PM (BST)

Where can I watch it?

The match will not be shown live on TV or online in the UK.

Independent Sport will keep you up-to-date with all the goals as they fly in via our live blog.

Highlights will be available at 10:30PM on BBC One.

It’s a big game for…

Theo Walcott: The 29-year-old may have kept true to his defensive duties against Wolves, but Marco Silva will be hoping that the former Arsenal forward can lend a helping hand to Richarlison going the other way when he faces the club where it all began for him 13 years ago. The England international managed just three goals from 14 appearances last campaign, another area in which he will need to chip in in order to help out the Brazilian forward if Everton are to have a successful season.

Stat…

Thirteen: Everton are unbeaten in their last 13 home league games against Southampton, a run which includes nine victories, since their 0-2 defeat to the Saints in November 1997.

Remember when…

The 1-0 scoreline in the fixture between these two sides in April 2015 may not have caught the eye, but Tim Howard certainly provided an eye-catching save for the Goodison faithful. Italy striker Graziano Pelle stuck out a leg to meet Shane Long’s cross, and the ball looked to be looping over the American goalkeeper before he clawed the ball away in the nick of time. The save, along with Phil Jagielka’s goal, ended up helping out Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who would have been replaced by the Saints in fifth place had they left Goodison victorious.

Player to watch…

Richarlison: The Brazilian could not have made a better start to life at Everton with two goals that dragged his side through to a draw. His first goal may have been on the scrappy side, but his second demonstrated the qualities that persuaded his new club to pay Watford an initial £35m for his services, gliding in between the Wolves defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. If he shows the work rate that he did against Wolves as well, Everton may have an answer up front.

Tottenham 3-1 Fulham

77: He's done it! The August curse is finally over!

Harry Kane collects the ball from Alli, cuts onto his right foot, and curls a low effort from close range into the bottom corner. A lovely finish to complete a nice move.

89: Jack Wilshere goes close with a low effort at goal but Begovic was equal to his right-footed shot. Bournemouth, dare we say it, are looking fairly comfortable.

Everton 2-1 Southampton

Walcott and Richarlison's first half goals were enough to beat Southampton, who showed a glimpse of a comeback when Igns stuck in the second half.

Tottenham 3-1 Fulham

Kane finally got the better of his curse and scored his first goal in August as Tottenham battled past Fulham. Lucas' impressive strike was cancelled out by Mitrovic, Trippier then gave Spurs the lead with a free kick similar to his goal for England against Croatia. The result was confirmed when Kane coolly slotted in the third to seal three points.

Leicester 2-0 Wolves

Ten man Leicester got their first win of the season after seeing off Wolves. A Doherty own goal gave Leicester an early lead before Maddison scored his first goal for the Foxes. Leicetser's task of holding onto their lead got significantly harder when Vardy saw red for a challenge on Doherty.
