Katie Hopkins’ Twitter account permanently suspended

Patrick Van Aanholt has celebrated Katie Hopkins being banned by Twitter for posting hateful content.

The Crystal Palace defender recently found himself in a Twitter spat with the former Apprentice star, ordering her to “bow before a king” after Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford helped ensure the government continued to provide free meals for disadvantaged children in England this summer.

And after a petition helped to successfully remove the right-wing commentator from Twitter, Van Aanholt tweeted in celebration.

The Dutch left-back wrote: “Unified Undisputed champion of Twitter DON’T @ ME”.

A statement from the social media network attributed the banning of her account, which had in excess of one million followers, for breaches of their Hateful Conduct policy.

“Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us – abuse and hateful conduct have no place on our service and we will continue to take action when our Rules are broken,” the company said in a statement.

“In this case, the account has been permanently suspended for violations of our Hateful Conduct policy.”

A row between the pair initially erupted after Hopkins’ offensive remarks concerning the Black Lives Matter movement.

Van Aanholt remarked: “I don’t know who she is but WOW... 2020 needs to cancel you. She really likes to talk – how long she been on this nonsense for?”

Hopkins then replied to Van Aanholt directly: “Dear @pvanaanholt My name is Katie Hopkins. I am a white Christian Conservative. You May kneel and kiss my ring.”

But the Dutchman swiftly replied: ”Dear @kthopkins My name is Patrick van Aanholt, I am Dutch Black, I’m also Christian (not that colour or Religion has anything to do with it).

“As for your ring you are welcome to come to Selhurst and kiss my big toe... I’ll wait. Twitter I’m going bed but I can promise you I’ll make time for this Katie Hopkins. Deuces”.
