A big clash near the foot of the Premier League table takes place on Saturday, as West Bromwich Albion host Brighton and Hove Albion, with three points and a lot of relegation-related stress at stake.

The Baggies are 19th in the table, with Sam Allardyce having so far been unable to spark his new side into any kind of consistency or defensive resilience. Two draws recently, against Manchester United and then last weekend against Burnley, offer a sliver of hope at escaping their fate, but wins are all that matter at this stage as they sit 11 points from safety.

For Brighton, the form of Fulham is the bigger worry; while the Seagulls’ smash-and-grab defeat by Crystal Palace last time out was a first loss in six, goalscoring has remained a real problem and too many games have been draws.

Just five goals in their last eight mean Graham Potter’s side still have a lot to do to secure their own safety, though their approach play has been generally good and the manager retains confidence that results will improve.

What is the team news?

Semi Ajayi is suspended for West Brom after being sent-off last weekend. He’s likely to be replaced by Dara O’Shea. Robert Snodgrass should be fit to return to the line-up after a minor knee injury, while Grady Diangana could also feature after making the bench last time out.

Tariq Lamptey is finally back to fitness, but might not start yet for Brighton. Solly March, Jose Izquierdo and Adam Webster are all out injured. There could be some tactical tweaks from Graham Potter as he looks to find a formula which provides a finishing touch to go with the often-impressive build-up.

Predicted line-ups

WBA - Johnstone; Furlong, O’Shea, Bartley, Townsend; Snodgrass, Maitland-Niles, Yokuslu, Gallagher, Pereira; Diagne

BRI - Sanchez; Veltman, White, Dunk, Burn; Alzate, Bissouma, Gross; Mac Allister; Welbeck, Trossard

Odds

West Brom - 17/5

Draw - 13/5

Brighton - 1/1

Prediction

The Seagulls only really take one approach into matches and West Brom might just be savvy enough to frustrate them and make them pay for any lapses at the back. West Brom 1-1 Brighton.
